ERYSIPELAS.
The s.s. " Crimdon " (Swedish), arrived at Gravesend on the 1st November, when
the usual questions were put to the master, but his answers showed no illness on board.
On arrival in dock, the boatswain was found to be ailing, and was subsequently notified
as suffering from Erysipelas, and it would appear that the man had been ill for six or
seven days before arrival at Gravesend. The patient was properly isolated on board.
The master of the vessel was asked for an explanation of his failure to report this case,
and he replied that in his opinion the man was suffering from the " effects of a bad
cold," and as he was improving he did not think it serious enough to report. The
man resumed work, apparently all right. In view of the master's explanation, further
action was considered undesirable.
