LAUNCHES.
The launch "Clotho" was disposed of on the 16th December. She was a most
useful economical boat, and should be replaced by a motor launch, which should be of
shallow draft, suitable for landing cases of illness at the Causeway at Denton Hospital.
"George Briggs," motor launch.— The period of guarantee terminated during
the year, and I had the launch surveyed by your Consulting Engineers. The engines
we're found to be in excellent condition, but the shaft had worn in the bearings and
required renewing.
The "David Burnett" continues to work satisfactorily, but as her toiler is
now 22 years old, the probability of renewal in the near future may have to be
considered.
MOORING BARGE " COLLINGWOOD."
Some of the links of the mooring chain were found to be badly chafed. These
were overhauled by the Port of London Authority, and made good where required.
A check was also provided to prevent a recurrence of the chafing.
The general condition of this barge is not good, and another should be obtained
when the time is propitious for getting a suitable one.
FUMIGATING APPARATUS, BARGE "THOMAS."
The fumigating plant was used on 11 occasions during the year, the largest ship
fumigated being one of 7,137 tons, with a cubic capacity of 550,000 cubic feet.
