It is satisfactory to find that meat generally has arrived in good condition, and
with regard to meat from Australia, very few quarters have been found affected with
onchocerciasis, whilst tongues arriving from South America also show marked improvement
as regards the presence of actinomycosis, due largely to the thoroughness of
examination in the countries of exportation.
Six members of the Staff are serving with his Majesty's Forces. In each case
they have been paid the proportion of salary or wages which your Honourable Court
decided to pay them, and their places will be kept open for them until their return,
temporary help having been engaged in such instances as were necessary to perform
their duties.
Your Committee have appointed Dr. W. M. Willoughby as Deputy Medical Officer
of Health. This has been found to conduce to the efficiency of the service, especially
in the lower part of the district, at G-ravesend.
The launch " Clotho," after being in use for over thirty years was disposed of, and
considering her condition, a fair price was obtained.
The Medical Officer suggests that she should be replaced by a motor launch which
would also be of use for landing cases of illness at Denton Hospital.
The arrangements for landing cases have not met with the entire approbation of
your Committee. This question will be considered in connection with the provision
of a new launch, and a report on the subject will be presented to your Honourable
Court in due course.
A special report of the working of the Canal Boats Act Regulations is included in
the Report, and an account of receipts and expenditure in connection with the
Port of London Sanitary Authority, for the year ended December 31st, 1914, is also
appended, in accordance with the Order of your Honourable Court, for the
information of the Court.
All which we submit to the judgment of your Honourable Court. Dated this
thirteenth day of April, 1915.
