PULMONARY TUBERCULOSIS.
The names and addresses of every person landing in the port and suffering with
this disease were taken and notified to the respective Medical Officers of Health, and
all necessary disinfection in every case carried out.
The s.s. "Rotorua," of Plymouth, 124,587, arrived from Wellington on the
15th August, when it was ascertained that the second cook, age 29 years, worked up to
the 19th June, when he reported sick, and was found to be suffering with advanced
Pulmonary Tuberculosis. He died on the 3rd July. The cabin, bedding and clothing
were thoroughly disinfected.
The s.s. "Durham Castle," of London, 118,587, arrived from Beira on the
11th December, when it was ascertained that the assistant cook was suffering with
Pulmonary Tuberculosis.
The s.s. "Inanda," of Aberdeen, 118,187, arrived from Beira on the 14th December,
when a fireman was found to be suffering with Pulmonary Tuberculosis. He was in an
early stage of the disease and was able to do his work. He was paid off in London and
his name and address were taken and notified to the Medical Officer of Health concerned.
The infected cabin was disinfected and repainted out.
