was unable to advise me as to what they were suffering from, but suggested
they be sent to Greenwich Hospital, which was done. This is the first
intimation that I have had that they were suffering from enteric fever. As to
their illness at sea, I am not a medical man, therefore the slight illness they had
on the voyage I cannot say what it was, but as before stated, the health of these
two men was sufficient on arrival at Thames Haven as not to hinder me from
stating truthfully that there was no sickness on board, nor had there been any
serious illness during the passage,"
I replied stating that the Master should not take the responsibility of stating that
all are well on board, but should report every case of illness on arrival at Gravesend.

MEASLES AND CHICKEN-POX.
On arrival of s.s, "Kasan," of Copenhagen, from Libau, on the 20th July, a
transmigrant was found to be suffering from measles, and an immigrant from
chicken-pox. The case of measles was removed to Denton Hospital, and the case of
chicken-pox was allowed to land. All necessary disinfection was carried out.
