These 175 births will produce a birth-rate of 13.4 per 1,000,
against 16.9 of the previous year 1896.
The birth-rate in London, for the year 1897, was 30.0 per 1,000.
This is the lowest London birth-rate on record.
Deaths.
The total Deaths registered in the Parish during the year 1897
were 297, a number 43 less than in the previous year.
*To these 169 Births occurring in the Parish must be added 6 belonging to
St. Martin's which took place at the Bear Yard Receiving Ward, making a
total of 175.
