PETROLEUM (REGULATION) ACTS
70 Licenses were issued to keep petroleum spirit and/or petroleum
mixture at 57 premises.
The maximum quantities of these substances which may be kept under
licence in the Borough are as follows:
Petroleum Spirit 75,130 gallons (51 licences)
Petroleum Mixture 12,250 gallons (19 licences)
SHOPS ACT, 1950
The total number of inspections during the year was 204. Heating,
lighting and ventilation, together with provision of sanitary and washing
accommodation, have been kept under observation.
Routine visits have been made in connection with general closing
hours, weekly half-holidays and Sunday trading.
PET ANIMALS ACT, 1951
One application for a licence to keep a pet shop was received and
approved.
THE GAME ACT, 1831
Three licences to deal in game were issued.
HEATING APPLIANCES (FIREGUARDS) ACT, 1952
Inspections of appliances, particularly in second-hand shops have
been made.
RAG FLOCK AND OTHER FILLING MATERIALS ACT, 1951
No applications were received under this Act.
CARAVAN SITES AND CONTROL OF DEVELOPMENT ACT, 1960
There are no caravan sites. Constant watch is kept for the appearance
of unauthorised vans on land in the Borough. Fourteen visits were made
during the year.
NOISE ABATEMENT ACT, 1960
Twenty-one complaints of noise were received and investigated during
the year. The complaints related to twelve sources of noise, two of which
are situated in adjoining districts. In the main the noises were from
industrial or commercial premises and informal action has achieved improvements.
It was not necessary to institute legal proceedings.
