MATERNAL MORTALITY
No deaths in childbirth, either from puerperal sepsis or other
maternal causes, were recorded during the year. The maternal mortality
rate for England and Wales per 1,000 live and still births was 0.33.
INFANTILE MORTALITY
The infantile mortality rate for 1961 was 20.09 per 1,000 live births.
The comparable rate for England and Wales is 21.40. Great credit is due to
the services operated in the Borough for the care of mothers and young
children.
Of the total of 448 live births, only 9 deaths of infants under one year
of age (6 males and 3 females) were registered.
