Smoke Control Areas
Two areas of the Borough have now been declared Smoke Control
Areas by Orders made by the Borough Council viz:
Beddington and Wellington No. 1 Smoke Control Order relating to that
part of the Borough bounded by the boundary with the Urban District
Councils of Carshalton and Coulsdon & Purley, and by Woodcote and
Heathdene Roads. This Order designating this area has been confirmed
by the Minister of Housing and Local Government following a Local
Enquiry held in June. It will come into force on the 1st November, 1961.
The area contains 359 houses and covers an area of 270 acres.
Beddington and Wallington No. 2 Smoke Control Order relating to the area
bounded by the County Borough of Croydon and the Urban District of
Coulsdon & Purley, and by Woodcote Road, Sandy Lane South and
Stafford Road. The preliminary survey of premises in this area was continued
during the year and an Order was made and forwarded to the
Minister for confirmation early in 1961. This Order, when confirmed,
will come into operation on the 1st October, 1962, or such later date as
the Minister may decide.
