FOOD AND DRUGS ACT, 1955
FOOD HYGIENE REGULATIONS, 1955
During 1956 the emphasis, so far as the Public Health Inspectors'
work was concerned, was on education with a view to securing compliance
with the Food Hygiene Regulations. Prior to the Regulations
coming fully into force, a start was made on visiting, by appointment,
the food premises in the Borough to discuss with the person in charge
and his staff the requirements as they affected the particular business or
premises. This approach has been generally appreciated and it is felt
that considerable improvements will be effected without the necessity for
enforcement action. Few of the food premises entirely satisfied the requirements
of the Regulations. Details of those matters by which they
fell short have been communicated to the occupiers concerned. By the
end of the year the inspection of food premises had been completed and a
start made on follow-up action.
The table on page 27 gives the number and type of premises inspected
and the contraventions revealed
