SANITARY INSPECTION OF THE AREA
The following statement by the Chief Sanitary Inspector gives
statistics as to the number of complaints received, inspections made,
defects remedied, and other work carried out by the Sanitary Inspectors.
REPORT OF THE CHIEF
SANITARY INSPECTOR FOR THE YEAR, 1953
HOUSING
Inspections of houses followed, in the main, the receipt of complaints
or the investigation of infectious disease. At the end of the year, however,
a systematic inspection of houses under the Housing (Consolidated)
Regulations was commenced.
No houses were closed or demolished during the year. One hundred
and forty-seven houses were rendered fit. In only six cases was it necessary
to resort to statutory action.

Eighty-seven samples of milk were submitted for examination. The results of the tests are set out below:
