ANTE-NATAL CLINIC.
The Clinic is housed in the Nurses' Home, Montagu Gardens, where
very good accommodation is rented by the Council from the District
Nursing Association.
No change took place in the arrangement of this clinic, two sessions
weekly being held, with an average attendance of 11.4 patients per session.
During the year, 339 expectant mothers attended the clinic, as
compared with 412 in 1947. This represents approximately 69 per cent,
of the total notified births, live and still, which were assigned to the
Borough during 1948, and is a creditable reflection on the efficiency and
consequent popularity of the Council's Ante-natal Service.
POST-NATAL CLINIC.
During 1948 the Post-natal Clinic, recommenced in September, 1946,
continued to offer facilities in this important branch of maternal care.
Considerably more women have Post-natal supervision than are
recorded in the tables. Women who have an institutional delivery
usually return to hospital as a routine a few weeks after their discharge,
and have their post-natal examination conducted by the Hospital Medical
Officers. It is possible that the number enjoying this facility is over
50 per cent, of the total mothers.
