cultivation of the parks and open spaces has been undertaken with
vigour, and the Borough can now boast a return almost to the high
level maintained before the war.
The demand for open spaces for recreation by school children,
youth organisations and industrial recreational clubs is very great,
and continues to grow. The Borough is fortunate in being well
provided to meet this demand.
Of the many additional social and recreational activities which
sprang up during the war, the Borough Swimming Club and the swimming
facilities provided by the Corporation during the summer months
by courtesy of the London County Council, at the Beddington
Orphanage, continue to flourish, the administration being conducted
by the Public Health Department.
