HOUSING.
No statistics in the tabular form usually required by the Ministry
of Health are submitted. The Minister has not asked for this information
and, owing to the present chaotic state of housing repairs and
the difficulty in remedying defects, such statistics would not give an
accurate picture of housing as a whole.

INSPECTION AND SUPERVISION OF FOOD.

MILK.

During the year the following samples of milk were taken within the district and examined bacteriologically in the laboratory of the Corporation's Public Health Department: —

With the exception of 2 samples of pasteurised milk, all the
samples examined complied with statutory requirements.
MEAT.
The carcases of all animals intended for sale for human consumption
and slaughtered in the Borough are inspected by a qualified
Inspector before being placed on the market.
FOOD AND DRUGS ACT, 1938.
On 1st April, 1940, the Corporation became the Food and Drugs
Authority for the Borough, and took over the duties under the Act
from the Surrey County Council.
The Corporation appointed H. Amphlett Williams, Esq.,
A.C.G.F.C., F.R.I.C., of 1, Southwark Street, London, S.E.I, as PublicAnalyst
for the Borough.
