year no less than 717 individual patients received treatment and there
was a total of 8,648 attendances. The need for an institution of this
sort has been emphasized by the series of poor summers that have
marked the war years, and it is most encouraging to find that mothers
from every part of the Borough are continually testifying to the benefit
that their children have derived from attendance at the Solarium.
The fact that many of these mothers are willing to walk with their
children to the Grange even from the extreme limits of the Borough
at least twice a week is clear proof of the value they attach to the
treatment provided at the Solarium.
In conclusion, I wish to refer to the great assistance that I have
received from the staff of the Public Health Department throughout
the year and to place on record my appreciation of the loyal help
they have always accorded me.
I have the honour to be,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Your obedient servant,
CHARLES A. BENTLEY,
Acting Medical Officer of Health.
