SHOPS AND OFFICES.
One hundred and twelve inspections were made during 1944
and in 2 cases action was necessary in regard to sanitary defects or

CAMPING SITES.
There are no camping sites within the Borough
SWIMMING BATHS.
As in the previous year, the Council were able to meet the large
demand for swimming facilities for young people and residents of
the Borough. The London County Council were approached and, for
an agreed rental, consented to allow the Beddington and Wallington
Corporation to meet the demand by the grant of generous sessions
at the swimming bath situated in the grounds of the Royal Female
Orphanage, Beddington. As the facilities offered to the general public
in the previous year proved so popular, by a re-arrangement of the
programme it was found possible to increase the Sunday facilities by
three mid-week sessions. Residents using the bath were enrolled in
a Borough Swimming Club under the control of officers of the
Corporation.
The revised arrangements promised to be extremely popular but
the prospects of a successful season diminished greatly when the
flying-bomb attacks commenced in the middle of June. But in spite
of the evacuation of school children and the cancellation of swimming
parades by the youth organisations, an emergency revision of the
programme resulted in higher attendances than ever before by
members of the Borough Swimming Club.

The following attendances were recorded during the season, which lasted 22 weeks: —
