VIOLENCE AND ACCIDENT.
A considerable increase has been recorded in the number of deaths
registered as being due to violence and accident. The deaths attributed
to street and home accidents and to suicide are at the same
level as heretofore. The 84 per cent. increase in the total deaths in
this category, as compared with last year, indicates the heavy toll
taken by the flying bombs during the late summer months of 1944.

MATERNAL MORTALITY.
One death occurred in hospital, the cause of death being certified
as complications following Cesarean Section. Enquiry has revealed
that the Cesarean Section was performed some years ago. Following
correspondence with the Registrar-General's Department, the information
has been received that the Department directed an enquiry to the
practitioner concerned, requesting information as to the disease or
condition which necessitated the Cesarean Section, but no reply was
received. As the information was not forthcoming, the death was
