Routine examinations of mills and water samples continue to be
done in the Public Health Laboratory established in 1937 at the Town
Hall, Wellington, under the supervision of the Medical Officer of
Health.
NUTRITION.
Evidence gained by the supervision of mothers and infants at the
Council's Clinics showed that, throughout the year, the average
nutritional standards were well maintained. No marked cases of
vitamin deficiency presented themselves, but it is possible that, as
the war advances, some vitamin deficiencies may be present without
giving rise to marked clinical features at medical inspections.
SHELL FISH (MOLLUSCAN).
Only a small quantity of shell fish is marketed in the district, and
is obtained chiefly from Billingsgate Market, London.
