VIOLENCE AND ACCIDENT.

Three deaths, all male, were recorded from suicide. Details of all deaths under this heading are as follows:—

Two of the deaths by suicide and three of the deaths due to
accidents in the home were caused by coal-gas poisoning.
MATERNAL MORTALITY.
There was one case which occurred in hospital from sepsis following
abortion involving an inquest.
INFANTILE MORTALITY.
Of 487 live births 16 deaths of infants under 1 year of age were
registered. Of these, 7 were males and 9 females: with two exceptions,
all were legitimate children. This gives an infantile mortality rate
of 32.85 per 1,000 live births, as compared with 44.74 in 1942 and 49.00
for England and Wales.
