SMOKE ABATEMENT.
No nuisances arising from the emission of smoke occurred during
the year.
SWIMMING BATHS.
During the year the Council decided to meet the growing demand
for swimming facilities for young people in the Borough. The London
County Council were approached and consented, for an agreed rental,
to allow Beddington and Wallington Corporation to meet the demand
by using the swimming bath situated at the Royal Female Orphanage,
Beddington. This, arrangement was eminently satisfactory, and
during the months of July, August and September, in spite of inclement
weather, school-children, youth organisations and Civil Defence
personnel were able to enjoy swimming activities. It is hoped that
next year an arrangement may be entered into early in the season
and the facilities extended to embrace a larger section of the
population.
ERADICATION OF BED BUCS.
During the year bed bugs were found to exist in 2 Council
houses, and in 4 other houses. Appropriate remedial measures were
taken.
SCHOOLS.
School Closure. On no occasion during the year was a School
closed by the Local Sanitary Authority on account of the prevalence
of Infectious Disease amongst the scholars.
As in the case of the Public Elementary Schools, notice is given to
the Head Teachers of all private schools in the event of the pupils
suffering from, or having been in contact with, Infectious Disease.
The advice of the Medical Officer of Health as to further action is
available should this be requested, and disinfection is provided when
required.
Medical Inspection. The medical inspection of the Public
Elementary School children is carried out by the Education Department
of the Surrey County Council.
Water Supply and Sanitary Condition. All the Public Elementary
Schools in the district have been inspected from time to time. They
are all supplied with water from the public mains and connected with
the sewers.
REGULATED TRADES: DAIRIES.
There are 7 registered premises within the district, this being one
less than last year.
During the year 30 visits of inspection were paid, and conditions
found to be satisfactory.
