The number of families in receipt of benefit from the Corporation
is considerably reduced by the operation of the Ministry of Food
Milk Schemes, introduced during the war. The Government's comprehensive
plan for the distribution both of liquid and dried milk
has relieved the local authority of: the necessity for supplementing
milk supplies to families to a considerable extent. This is reflected
in the foregoing table:
In adition, in certain cases, concentrated vitamin foods or drugs
are provided free or at reduced price. Further, when in the opinion
of the Medical Officer of Health it is considered necessary, infant,
foods are supplied to mothers at cost price.
