NON-NOTIFIABLE DISEASES.
Returns from the local education authority keep the department
informed of the incidence of these diseases in children attending the
elementary schools. As the schools were closed during 1939 for
some months on account of the War, no useful purpose would be
served in publishing the returns received, as a gross under-statement
would be shown.
TUBERCULOSIS.
There were 31 new cases notified during the year.

The annual case rate for Pulmonary Tuberculosis per 1,000 of
population for 1939 was 0.80 compared with 0.58 for 1938.
The annual case rate for Non-Pulmonary Tuberculosis per 1,000
of population for 1939 was 0.17 compared with 0.26 for 1938.

It will be seen from the foregoing table that 11 deaths were registered
as due to Tuberculosis, of which 8 were Pulmonary and 3 NonPulmonary.
