including the landing ground of the Croydon Aerodrome, boasts some
very fine residential property.
Of recent years the northern third of the district has taken on a
more industrial outlook, several large factories being developed there
(radio engineering and manufacturing, chocolate making), in all giving
work to about 15,000 people.
This part of the district, while retaining some of the old-world
associations inseparable from such places as Beddington Corner and
Beddington Village, includes Beddington Park and the Croydon
Sewerage Works.
Some fine open spaces are to be found in various parts of the
district, and much credit is due to the forethought and imagination
which has prompted their development in recent years, and which,
while robbing the beauty spots of none of their natural charm, has
made them more accessible and hence more appreciated by the general
public.
The population of the district has increased steadily since 1925,
and the growth of shopping centres, well planned and tastefully constructed,
has been commensurate with other developments.
Unemployment remains at a low level.
