Offices of the Board of Wokks for the Whitechapel District,
No. 15, Great Alie Street,
London, E.,
September 30tli, 1895
To the Board of Works,
Gentlemen,
At your last Meeting on the 19th August, 1895, I submitted
to you a Beport which dealt with the cases of Small pox notified within
the District. Up to that date the total number amounted to 75.
During the 6 weeks which have since elapsed, I have received 19
notifications of Small-pox cases. Eleven patients resided in private
houses, all but 2 of these were removed to Hospital. Of these 1 was too
ill to be removed, and death occurred from Hosmorrhagic Sinall-pox.
The body was coffined—disinfectants were freely used—and burial took
place within 2 days aiter death. I re-vaccinated persons who had been
exposed to the risk of contagion, and no further case was reported in the
same street.
Seven patients were removed from Registered Common LodgingHouses,
and 1 from the Whitechapel Union Infirmary.
No re-vaccinated person was attacked by Small-pox.
One of the cases was allowed to remain isolated at home by permission
of the doctor in attendance.
I append a list of the details concerning the patients. It is constructed
as a continuation of the sheet which I presented with my first
Eeport.
I have the honor to be,
Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
JOSEPH LOANE.
