The deaths of children under five years of age, including the
above, were for London equal to 40.2 per cent. of the total deaths,
and 23.1 per cent. of the registered births; and, for the Whitechapel
District, they were equal to 41.6 per cent. of the total
deaths, and 24.3 per cent. of the registered births. These were
nearly allied to last year's record.
These deaths during the year numbered 30. They were registered
in the following Asylums as under:—
In the Banstead Asylum 8
Colney Hatch ,, 14
Leavesden ,, 8
Seven died between the ages of 60 and 80; 8
between 40 and 60; and 15 between 20 and 40. Brain disease
proved fatal in 17 instances; in 6, Phthisis was the registered
cause of death; Heart disease and Chest complications were
responsible for 6 deaths; whilst 1 death was attributed to
Cancer.
