Adulteration of Food Act.
The Inspectors report, that they had submitted to Dr. Tidy, for analysis,
eleven samples of milk. Three of these samples were found to be largely
adulterated ; that summonses were taken out against the respective sellers,
and the following fines were inflicted, viz., £5 and costs, 40s. and costs, and
10s. and costs. In the case in which £5 and costs were inflicted, the milk
was adulterated with 27 per cent, of added water. The same person was
summoned for a similar offence on the 4th July, 1878, when he was fined
40s. and costs. In all cases in which summonses are taken out by the officers
of your Board, the costs charged are only those which the officers have paid
for the summonses.
