The two official representations respecting the unsanitary condition of
certain localities in the District which I made to the Metropolitan Board of
Works, the particulars of which are set forth in my last two quarterly
reports have, with some alterations, been adopted by that Board, and orders
have been given to their officers to prepare schemes under the Artizans and
Labourers Dwellings Act, and that the necessary steps should be taken with
a view to their being confirmed by the Secretary of State.
In addition to the statistics relating to the death-rate in the two
schemes, which were only prepared for one year and published in connection
with my official representations, I have prepared the following statistics
respecting the death-rate of the areas complained of for the 5 years ending
October, 1874, which may not be uninteresting to your Board.
