Organisational Developments to meet the growing needs of Clients
During the summer of 1969 an attempt was made to examine individual
social worker's caseloads both in terms of size and the varying
degrees to which clients need social casework support. Whilst the purpose
of this examination was primarily to provide information which
would be helpful to us in considering the possibilities of setting up area
offices, the information also indicated that the existing social work
establishment was deficient by seven social workers if the high standard
of service to our clients which they need is to become a reality. However,
because of the continuing demands for national economies, it
seems unlikely that any further increase in establishment will be
possible before 1970/71 and that even then only a proportion of the
required additional staff will be possible.
An analysis of new referrals investigated by the social workers
during 1969 reveals a number of significant factors.
