Refuse
Disposal
The collection and disposal of refuse which is under the
control of the Borough Surveyor, has increased, the 1965
figure being 77,972 tons; that for 1966 amounted to 80,087
tons.
Waste paper salvaged amounted to 2,340 tons having a
value of £19,173.
Rags, woollens, carpets, scrap metal and tyres contributed
to the income of the Borough in that 128 tons of these commodities
were collected and disposed of affording an income of
£2.038.
Sanitary
Inspection of
the Area
Work in this field was of a high standard, despite understaffing
of the inspectorate. Visits were more frequent and
resulted in many improvements in general housing conditions.
