Orthoptic Miss M. Ward, Orthoptist, reports as follows:—
"During the year of 1965, 228 sessions were held in the
Orthoptic Department of Mayesbrook Health Services Clinic.
137 new cases were investigated and the total attendances
amounted to 858. 120 cases were discharged. 136 new and old
cases were in attendance at the Clinic on the 31st December,
1965.
The Clinic has become busier throughout the year and
there was a general increase of about 35% on the last year's
figures of new cases seen and also on the total number of
attendances of patients.
The Orthoptic Clinic is an indispensable adjunct to the
School Eye Clinic in the treatment and observation of squint
cases."
In addition at the Woodford Clinic Mrs. Ashenden held 36
sessions at which 133 attendances were made.
Orthopaedic As in the case of the Ophthalmic Clinics here again we
Clinic are fortunate in being able to serve the whole of the Borough
by providing four clinics with the minimum of travel for both
parents and patients.
Throughout the year 83 sessions were held and 549 attendances
were made by 132 new cases and 303 old cases.
Mr. H. G. Korvin, E.R.C.S., Consultant Orthopaedic
Surgeon, reports as follows:—
"No new developments have taken place during the year
1965. The creation of the new London Borough of Redbridge has
not affected the work at the clinics.
There was a difficult period during July and August when,
the physiotherapist, Mr. Brand was absent on study-leave and
the treatment-clinics had to be suspended. The nursing-staff
very kindly took on his part at the assessment clinics in
addition to their own. Mr. Brand used this period for studying
the most advanced methods of treating children affected by
Cerebral Palsy, and is now making use of the result of his
studies in the treatment of suitable cases at the clinic.
Attendance at the Clinics was at a reasonable level.
Through a modification of the Appointments system the waitingtime
for children and their parents has been reduced.
I wish to thank all those taking part in these clinics for
their unfailing help.*
