BIRTHS
During the year 536 live births were registered, being 24 less
than last year's total. The rate per thousand population was 11.9
comparing with an average for England and Wales of 17.4. Of the tot a:
number 21 or 3.9 per cent were illegitimate.
DEATHS
During the year 531 deaths were registered, an increase of 26
compared with those recorded in 1960, the rate per thousand being 12.2
compared with an average of 12.0 for England and Wales. The infant
mortality rate was 14.9 compared with the figure of 21.4 for England
and Wales. 30 males and 2 females died from lung cancer, 2 more than
in the previous year. The death rates from this condition per 1,000
population were 1.400 for males and 0.079 for females as compared with
the rates of 0.871 and 0.141 respectively for England and Wales.
