NOTES ON UNSATISFACTORY SAMPLES.
Starch Reduced Bread.
An informal sample was submitted to the public analyst who
reported that in his opinion the percentage reduction in starch was so
insignificant that it was misleading to describe the bread as starch
reduced. Representations were made to the bakery company concerned
who agreed to withdraw all claims to the term 'starch reduced' as
applicable to this bread.
Clean Mixed Fruit.
An informal sample was submitted to the public analyst who
reported that it contained an excess of sand and earthy matter and was
not suitable for use without prior washing. The importer agreed to
alter his labelling and omit the word 'clean'.
Vienna Sausages.
An informal sample of a tin of Vienna Sausages was submitted to
the public analyst who reported that as tripe was the major ingredient
and not pork, these sausages were not entitled to the description
'Vienna Sausages'. This was an imported product and after considerable
correspondence the manufacturers agreed to omit the word 'Vienna' from
the label.
