DEATHS.
During the year 468 deaths were registered, an increase of 1
compared with those recorded in 1955, the rate per thousand being
10.7 compared with an average of 11.7 for England and Wales.
The infantile mortality rate was 17.0, a low rate compared with
the figure of 23.8 for England and Wales. 19 males and 3 females
died from lung cancer, 3 more than in the previous year. The
death rates from this condition per 1,000 population were .900 for
males and .122 for females which is higher than the rates of .726
and .111 respectively for England and Wales.
