The death rate from tuberculosis per 1,000 of the population
was 0.11 as compared with the rate for England and Wales of 0.15.
Twenty-five cases of pulmonary tuberculosis were notified,
one more than in 1954.
PREVENTION OF TUBERCULOSIS.
Mass X-ray, B.C.G. vaccination of susceptible groups and
careful checking of the contacts of all new cases have contributed
to the fall in the death rate of this disease. The notification rate
has not fallen as rapidly because of the great improvement in
diagnosis.
