DEATHS.
During the year 415 deaths were registered, a decrease of 15
compared with those recorded in 1953, the rate per thousand being
9.1 compared with an average of 11.3 for England and Wales.
The infantile mortality rate was 19.7, a low rate compared with
the figure of 25.5 for England and Wales. There were 21 deaths
due to cancer of the lung; 12 more than the deaths from this cause
in 1953.
