PREVENTION OF TUBERCULOSIS
B.C.G. Vaccination of School Children.
Following consideration of a recent Ministry of Health
Memorandum on B.C.G. Vaccination the County Health and
Education Committees have approved a scheme to offer B.C.G.
Vaccination, subject to the necessary preliminary tests and to obtaining
parental consent, free of charge to school children between
their thirteenth and fourteenth birthdays. Skin tests and vaccinations
would be done at the schools by Medical Officers of the
School Health Service who had been specially designated for this
purpose as required by the Minister.
This vaccination was carried out towards the end of the year
and the response was very good with no untoward reactions. It
is hoped that this procedure will greatly reduce the incidence of
Tuberculosis among young adults.
