DEATHS.
During the year 433 deaths were registered, an increase
of 29 compared with those recorded in 1948, the rate per
thousand being 100 compared with an average of 11.7 for
England and Wales. The infantile mortality rate was 25.5
per thousand live births, a low rate, comparing with the figure
of 32 for England and Wales. For the fifth year in succession
there were no deaths from maternal causes.
