DEATHS.
During the year 452 deaths were registered, an increase of
82 over those recorded in 1946, the rate per 1,000 being 10.1
compared with an average of 12.0 for England and Wales. The
infantile mortality was 24.8 per 1,000 live births, a low rate,
comparing with the figure of 41 for England and Wales. For
the third year in succession there were no deaths from
maternal causes.
