Borough of Malden and Coombe
ANNUAL REPORT
of
THE MEDICAL OFFICER OF HEALTH
1947
Public Health Department,
Muncipal Offices,
New Malden.
July, 1947.
To the Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors of the
Borough of Malden and Coombe.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have the honour to submit my Annual Report for 1947
which has been prepared in accordance with Ministry of Health
circular 170/47.
Vital statistics, which are dealt with in the text, are very
satisfactory and show an advantage, in almost every department.
over the average for the country as a whole.
As this is my last report to the Council on leaving their
service I may, perhaps, be permitted to end on a personal note.
During my seventeen years in the district, the population has
doubled and many changes have taken place. The most outstanding
event was, of course, the world war during which time
the Council had to take on many unusual duties and developed
an organisation which seems remarkable in retrospect.
I have seen many changes as regards members of the
Council and I should like to thank them all, past and present,
for the many kindnesses I have received from them. I have also
been fortunate with my working colleagues and a happy atmosphere
has always existed within the Public Health Department
and in its relation with other departments.
1 cannot end without paying tribute to Mr. Tunbridge, who
has been my colleague and friend for so many years. There
is no one who knows as well as I do just how much the district
owes to his ability and energy.
I am,
Mr. Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors,
Your obedient servant,
JAMES FANNING,
Medical Officer of Health.
