SANITARY ADMINISTRATION.
ANNUAL REPORT
OF
THE SANITARY INSPECTOR
1946
Public Health Department,
Municipal Offices,
New Maiden.
To the Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have the pleasure to submit my twenty-seventh Annual
Report of work done and matters of interest concerning the
sanitary department.
The year under review is the first since 1938, which can
be termed more or less normal, the department having been
freed of duties in connection with civil defence and the aftermath
of the war. Nevertheless, activities were restricted owing
to the concentration of effort in building new houses and the
necessary limitation of labour and supplies for ordinary repairs.
Much essential repair work has, however, been done and in
this respect close liaison with the licensing section of the
Borough Engineer's Department has been maintained. Some
of the work has been the repair of war damage and time has
been occupied in assisting owners to make their claims. This
has been due to the fact that notices requiring abatement of
nuisances have often been in part to effect necessary repairs
caused by enemy action and also for repairs due to ordinary
wear and tear. Since war damage repairs have ceased to be
carried out by the Council it has become obligatory for the
owner to arrange for these to be done and a little help has
assisted in obtaining more speedy compliance with notices.
