SANITARY ADMINISTRATION.
ANNUAL REPORT
OF
THE SANITARY INSPECTOR
1945
Public Health Department,
Municipal Offices,
New Malden.
To the Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have the pleasure to submit my twenty-sixth Annual
Report of work done and matters of interest concerning the
sanitary department.
The end of the war in Europe gave some relief chiefly in
regard to civil defence duties but, although these services were
disbanded in June, a large amount of work remained to be
cleared up so that it was not until towards the end of the year
that any appreciable effect could be felt. I do feel that, at some
time or other when the opportunity occurs, a record of the tremendous
amount of these war-time activities should be placed
on record. The whole of the administration in connection with
First Aid Posts, Ambulances, Heavy and Light Rescue, Oas
Identification, Mortuary and Food Decontamination Services
was done in the department under extremely difficult and trying
circumstances. Looking back I feel a sense of satisfaction that,
with the loyal backing of the staff of the department under the
leadership of the Medical Officer of Health, this work which
commenced long before the outbreak of war was so successfully
accomplished.
The carrying out of ordinary house repairs was again handicapped
by the large amount of war damage repairs occasioned
by the flying bomb attacks, but nevertheless a good deal of
urgent house repairs were done.
