Borough of Malden and Coombe
ANNUAL REPORT
OF
THE MEDICAL OFFICER OF HEALTH
1944
Public Health Department,
Municipal Offices,
New Malden.
July, 1945.
To the Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors of the
Borough of Malden and Coombe.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have the honour to submit my Annual Report for
the year 1944, which has been prepared in accordance with
Ministry of Health Circular 49/35. Vital statistics
recorded in the text show that the year has been a uniformly
good one. The high birth rate has been maintained and
there have been reductions in the general death rate and
in the infantile mortality rate.
The incidence of infectious disease has been low and
it is pleasant to record that no case of diphtheria was
notified.
I wish again to thank members of the staff of the
department for their continued hard work and efficiency
during a year when air attack made especially great
demands on them. I am also grateful to those members of
the Civil Defence Services who assisted in general public
health work.
The death during the year of Mr. O. Elliott, an old
and trusted servant of the Council, was a sad loss to the
Department.
I am,
Mr. Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors,
Your obedient Servant,
JAMES FANNING,
Medical Officer of Health.
