(6) COLLECTION AND DISPOSAL OF HOUSE
REFUSE.
Refuse is removed thrice weekly in the shopping areas
and twice weekly in the residential areas, and is disposed
of by tipping and burning in a destructor.
Although the majority of the present horse-drawn
vehicles used for the removal of refuse are of the old
high-loading type, the Council have during recent years
purchased two horse-drawn vehicles of a more modern
and sanitary type, and one motor freighter which is
serving the portions of the District furthest from the
Destructor.
Notices are served from time to time by this Department
for the provision of sanitary dustbins, and during
the year a large number of new dustbins have been
supplied by owners.
