Personal Health Services will be transferred to the new Area Health
Boards. It is essential that the Environmental Health Services are
retained as a single unit so that there will still be a Department of the
Council directly responsible for Environmental Health matters and
that adequate liaison can be maintained with the Medical Officer at
the new Area Health Board on matters relating to the control of
infectious disease.
On behalf of my predecessor, Mr. G. H. Cockell, Chief Public
Health Inspector for the first four months of the year, and myself, I
would like to express my appreciation of the support of the Chairman
and Members of the various Committees concerned with the work of
the Public Health Inspectors and my thanks to the Inspectors, Technical
Assistants and Clerical Staff for their willing help and loyalty
during the year.
J. P. SMITH,
Chief Public Health Inspector.
