Developmental Clinic
This is a clinic held twice monthly for children with suspected
developmental delay. The children are seen by Dr. Rona Maclean,
a consultant at the Manor Hospital, and one of the local Authority's
doctors with training in assessing children with special needs. Also
in attendance and playing a particularly important part is the Area
Co-ordinator of Social Services.
The children are seen in an informal setting with special emphasis
on the needs of the whole family in relation to what services
the Borough is able to offer to improve the child's potential. This entails
close co-operation with various services, including the school
psychological service, speech therapy, physiotherapy, audiology service
and social workers.
In any child in whom there is severe delay and special education
will be appropriate, a home visit is made in addition by the local
authority doctor.
