INFANT MORTALITY
Of the 35 infant deaths, 21 occurred in the first seven days of
life. All but one of these babies were delivered in hospital.
The infant mortality rate of 15.08 compares very favourably with
the rate of 17.0 for England and Wales.
PERINATAL MORTALITY
The perinatal mortality rate for Merton was 17.09 per 1,000
live and still births, thus comparing favourably with that for England
and Wales of 22.0.
MATERNAL MORTALITY
There were no maternal deaths in 1972.
