SMALLPOX VACCINATION
As a direct result of the outbreak of Smallpox which occurred in the
early part of the year throughout England and Wales, measures were put
in hand to secure the vaccination of all persons travelling abroad from this
Country, particularly those travelling to the Continent for their holidays
and who were required to produce evidence of recent vaccination before
being allowed into the Country.

This resulted in a marked increase in the number of vaccinations carried out during the year as compared with that of previous years and the following table indicates the extent to which advantage was taken of this service:—

During the year under review 54% of infants under one year of age
received vaccination either at the Surrey County Council's Clinics or from
general practitioners in the area. The average over the past five years of
infants vaccinated under one year of age is 63 %.
