104 samples of milk were submitted for bacteriological
examination during the year and 7 were unsatisfactory; 5
failing the Methylene Blue or keeping quality test and 2 the
Phosphatase test which measures the efficiency of pasteurisation.
These were all from one firm and were similar to results
obtained in other areas in Surrey, with whom close co-operation
was maintained. Eventually I gave the firm notice of their
liability to prosecution for a breach of the conditions of the
licence. While the necessary papers were being prepared the
contract to supply premises in this district expired and was
not renewed by the County Council Supplies Department.
The undermentioned licences to use special designations
were granted during 1954.
