The appended tabular statement shows the distribution of births in our area as between the various maternity departments:—

Seven hundred and seventy six births took place in hospitals
or nursing homes out of a total of 887; that is 87%
of the total births were institutional as compared with 89% for
1951.
A table is reproduced on page 13 giving the general
picture since 1935.
