appreciated. They assist the families of the T.B. person in
many ways—financially, by mobilising existing agencies, rather
than directly, extra nourishment or allowances in kind, by
providing or lending beds, bedding; clothing and household
articles; domestic help; helping to obtain suitable employment;
occupational therapy and rehabilitation; holiday schemes for
children in the family; facilitating the examination of contacts
with special regard to mass radiography, etc.
Appended is a brief report on the work of the local Committee
supplied by the Secretary.
Assistance given during- 1946.
In 20 instances patients were assisted, with the help of
the W.V.S., the S.S. & A.F.A. and the B.R.C.S., to obtain
bedsteads, mattresses and bedding.
Grants were made in 15 cases to enable patients, or their
dependents, to secure clothing.
11 patients have received help with fares and 9 have also
received pocket money allowance when in Sanatoria.
Help has also been given in the following ways:—
Part cost of spectacles.
Cost of gas-fire in bedroom.
Fees for correspondence course and books.
Part cost of convalescent treatment.
Christmas parcel for patient.
Arrears of National Health Insurance.
Rent Arrears.
In addition to the above, the Committee agreed to purchase
a shed to enable a patient unfit for normal work to do
carpentry in his own garden.
